MOVE Culver City | Culver City, CA

Type: Planning + Design

Scale: City-wide

Status: commencing November 15, 2021

Under the leadership and direction of the Culver City City Council and the Culver City Transportation Department, the MOVE Culver City project was born. This project is implementing the guiding principles set forth in the City’s Transit Oriented Development Visioning Plan and the Bicycle and Pedestrian Action Plan to design and construct holistic transportation options for pedestrians, bicyclists, and transit riders.

Street Plans worked alongside Sam Schwartz and TY Lin on the design, outreach, and art components of the Tactical Mobility Lane Pilot Project which will create mobility lanes in both directions on the 1.3 mile stretch of Culver Blvd. and Washington Blvd. between Culver Blvd. and Duquesne Ave. and Washington Blvd. and La Cienega Ave. The mobility lane will offer a different mobility option to cyclists, scooters, emergency vehicles and transit – including Culver CityBus, Big Blue Bus, LA Metro and LADOT (Los Angeles Department of Transportation) bus lines.

In addition to enhancing the infrastructure for transit, bikes and scooters, the MOVE Culver City Project will also enhance the pedestrian experience by adding asphalt art designs inspired by the local flora and fauna of the Ballona Creek to various locations across the corridor.

The installation for the project is set to begin on November 15th, 2021.
