Nestled between the Louisburg Road, Highway 540, and the Neuse River Greenway Trail, the 5401 North project is a proposed mixed-use neighborhood development designed by Dover Kohl & Partners and developed by CPRT. The project site is also located just to the south of Wake Tech campus, which features the full-time equivalent of 13,000 students, and already includes a middle school.5401 Bike Plan-2-23-12

The Street Plans Collaborative was retained by CPRT to work with Dover Kohl to maximize the bicycle-friendliness of the existing plan. The 5401 bicycle plan includes a bicycle network plan, bicycle parking plan, wayfinding and signing plan, and numerous streets section and intersection design details.

As proposed, the neighborhood bikeway network features a variety of bikeway types designed to encourage people of all abilities to cycle between the downtown center, schools, parks, and the 35-mile Neuse River Greenway Trail.  Of particular note is the use of cycle tracks, bicycle boxes, and bicycle prioritizations signals at major intersections. These will be the first such facilities built in the City of Raleigh.
